The biggest hospitality challenge is back: The NXT GM 2024!
Minor Hotels and HotelloTOP offer final-year and recently graduated Hotello’s the chance of a lifetime, a dream job as a general manager!
This means not starting at the bottom, but working directly after as a general manager at a four-star hotel. During The NXT GM Challenge, we will prepare the candidates for a general manager position and they will master everything they need to know to succeed in the hospitality industry.
What's the catch?
There isn't one!
The winner of The NXT GM Challenge 2024 really starts as General Manager of a four-star hotel, with all the benefits that come with it. On September 1st 2024, the keys will be handed over to the winner of this challenge. This means that he or she is one hundred percent responsible for running the hotel. Financially, operationally, commercially… the real deal. The winner will be coached for a year by experienced ‘captains of industry’. Professionals who know exactly how it works in the hotel business and who know the tricks of the trade down to the last detail.
The winner of The NXT GM Challenge 2024 will receive the hotel key to NH Schiller and NH Caransa in the heart of Amsterdam and will work for a year as general manager at this beautiful location, with top notch support. A unique opportunity to learn the real practice, from the top.

About us
The NXT GM Challenge is organized by HotelloTOP and Minor Hotels. HotelloTOP is the network platform for alumni of the Dutch Hotel Management Schools. Minor Hotels is one of the twenty largest hotel chains in the world and has more than five hundred hotels in over fifty countries. Minor Hotels wants to be the first choice of guests going to the big city and focuses on ultimate quality. Good employees are the key factor in this. Together, HotelloTOP and Minor Hotels give young hospitality talent a platform to develop and challenge themselves, both personally and professionally.

Who are we looking for?
Minor Hotels and HotelloTOP are looking for the hotel manager of the future; a Hotello pur sang! You are energetic, hospitable and you get a kick out of achieving results. Besides that you are a socially driven person, inventive, pragmatic and ambitious. You have a hands-on mentality and you have a healthy dose of guts and humor.
How do I sign up?
Registration for The NXT GM Challenge 2024 is possible from September 18th untill October 15th 2023. Just remember, your registration is only complete once you get a confirmation email from us, along with an extra assignment.
On October 25th all applications will be reviewed by our panel of experts. Straight after, you will hear whether you have been selected as a TOP 10 candidate and will be moving on to the next round; the Challenge Days. During an intensive two day programme on November 10th & 11th 2023, you may then come and prove yourself to the jury.
What is expected of you?
- You are a student or graduate of one of the Dutch Hotel Management Schools
- You are in the final year of your education, or you have graduated for a maximum of three years. That means you graduated between September 1st 2021 and September 1st 2024
- You are available full-time from September 1st 2024 to August 31st 2025
- You are full-time available for the training program as Assistant General Manager starting June 1st 2024, that provides you with the necessary information for your role as 'NXT GM'
- You are available for the Challenge Days on November 10th and 11th 2023
- You are at least 18 years old
- You have a driving license
- You have a very good command of the English language - both in speech and in writing
- Speaking and understanding the Dutch language is an advantage
- You are an EU Citizen
- You have had at least one part-time or full-time job in the hospitality industry
